There is something that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.

It was a question that a Catholic priest asked me while we were debating.

He said, “No matter what you say about science and our origin of life or anything like that, youhaveto admit that there is something about humans that connects…

Its called compassion and integrity. Seeing someone who’s less fortunate than you makes you realize how good you have it. And in turn that makes you want to help someone who maybe can’t help themselves. I know I volunteer because if I was down on my luck, I would want someone to help me. We’re all connected by the fact that we are human, we make mistakes and we all get stuck in unfortunate situations. We can relate to one another’s hardships..its just an instinctual thing most people are born with. I think it all falls under the golden rule, “treat others how you would want to be treated.” I’d like to say its a karma thing but I suppose that would be semi-religious…I just do good for others because I can. It takes nothing but a little time to volunteer and give someone a bit of help. I have all the time in the world, I might as well spend it doing something that makes me feel useful and helpful..that’s what integrity is. Doing the right thing when no one is looking, doing the right thing just because it is right. I don’t give back in hopes of getting into heaven or for God to see my good merit. I give back because I feel sympathetic and empathetic for the “less fortunate”. Its as simple as that. Human integrity. People born without it are the serial killers of the world. Seriously..
